Infant nutrition experts present new findings

Arla Foods Ingredients invites top scientists to ESPGHAN symposium

New research into Arla Foods Ingredients’ specialist proteins will be presented to infant nutrition manufacturers, paediatricians and scientists in Sorrento, Italy next month. The event is the 2011 scientific meeting of ESPGHAN – the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. Held on 25-28 May, several thousand international visitors are expected to attend.

Following a successful debut at last year’s meeting, Arla Foods Ingredients will host a satellite symposium with presentations by four leading experts in paediatric nutrition.

An active player
Marcus Gliwitzki, infant nutrition business development manager, considers the event a perfect opportunity to present the latest research findings on osteopontin, a key product in Arla Foods Ingredients’ infant nutrition portfolio. ”For us, it’s a chance to show just how active we are in this field, and that obtaining documentation for our ingredients is an important focus area,” he says.
Produced by a patented process, Lacprodan® OPN-10 is the only commercial osteopontin product on the market.

Role in infant development
In addition to Lacprodan® OPN-10, Arla Foods Ingredients’ ESPGHAN booth will highlight Lacprodan® ALPHA-10. High in the protein alpha-lactalbumin, Lacprodan® ALPHA-10 contains components widely believed to play a role in the maturation of the infant immune system and in cognitive development.

”Reducing the protein in infant formula to a level closer to that of human breast milk remains an important priority among paediatricians and manufacturers of infant nutrition. Our efforts concentrate on identifying, documenting and commercialising bioactive components in bovine milk that can contribute to this,” Gliwitzki says.
