Enhanced endurance performance

There is an increase in oxidative damage during exercise and a decrease in the antioxidant glutathione (GSH), which can lead to fatigue and reduced performance. Enhancing concentrations of GSH could enhance endurance performance by improving the body’s oxidative capacity. Cysteine is the rate-limiting factor for GSH formation, thus an increase in cysteine can increase GSH oxidative capacity. Our alpha-lactalbumin rich whey fractions are rich in cysteine, and use of these as supplements may improve antioxidant levels, reduce oxidative stress and improve performance.

Whilst carbohydrates are and always will be a key part of nutrition for endurance athletes, consumption of high quality proteins in the two hour ‘window of opportunity’ straight after exercise is known to improve recovery. Consuming whey protein during this period, enhances the body’s ability to adapt to training-, and can reduce recovery time and improve performance.
